My son is my inspiration!

Me & Jack (age 2) at a soccer tournament in CA

My son was born in 2006 when I was a new elementary school teacher who had recently graduated with a major in child development. It didn’t take long before I realized my child was not developing like other babies. I subsequently quit my teaching job and devoted myself to helping my son with his delays which included lack of speech, repetitive and unusual behavior, sensory issues and more. I quickly realized he had many autistic traits and after having him evaluated, found that he was in fact on the autism spectrum. I got him involved in as many therapies as I possibly could and worked close by his side through all of his programs and schooling.  Today, at age 15, most people would not believe that Jack is autistic. He was mainstreamed in Kindergarten and has a huge social network today! Even with his additional diagnosis of ADHD, he is excelling in school and is studying to become an engineer. He has inspired me to help others facing mental disorders who may feel there is no hope for a “normal” future. Jack is an inspiration to myself and others and I hope that I can help just one family with his story and all that I learned from being his Mom!
